Bernalillo County Information Technology Department

The County of Bernalillo Information Technology Department (BC-IT Dept) is responsible for all of the Bernalillo County’s computer systems, support, development, training/technical assistance, network administration, in addition to supporting three remote geographical sites.  In 2009 BC-IT Department received the prestigious Hewlett Packard Award for upgrading its computer systems to provide faster and more comprehensive service to its web viewers.  BC-IT Dept. supports approximately two thousand employees with a staff of seventy five full-time and ten temporary employees.

BC-IT Dept. contracted with PMC Solutions, Inc. (PMCS) to design, develop and implement a Business Process Management Center using PMCS inProcess™ software.  This center will contain all BC-IT Department’s business processes.   PMCS process analysts and inProcess™ experts will capture existing and partially documented processes using LEAN methodology process mapping techniques.  To further assist BC-IT Dept. efforts, PMCS personnel will provide inProcess™ USER and Process Mapping 101 training.

BC-IT Dept.  Business Process Management Center primary goal is to encourage communication between departments and to follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency.  Knowledge retention, as workers retire or leave the county, is another principal goal for the implementation of the business process management center. BC-IT Department’s intention is to make sure that individual and departmental expertise is well documented and easily accessible.  BC-IT Dept. has also initiated several new projects and has documented the processes to be used throughout the organization, as an instructional tool.
